Overview

The individual in this position will provide timely, cost-effective, engineering and utilities management services. Responsible for overall site engineering leadership, processes and systems. Integrate with the Department Manager relative to capital workload and key contractors/suppliers. Supervise the activities of the Engineering staff, hire appropriate service contractors as needed, and ensure a cost effective, safe work environment for all employees. This individual will be required to be a working member of the Engineering and Facilities staff during emergency and non-emergency situations. Prepare technical reports, analysis, recommendations and presentations reflecting the status and results of projects in progress on a regular basis. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate and monitor all aspects of engineering operations, including scheduling of engineering services to ensure that specifications/milestone deadlines are met and quality of work and services, to maintain high production standards and remain on budget. Assist in the development of short-and long-term facility utilization strategies and plans.
  • Evaluate and give guidance to engineering department staff on an on-going basis as to their abilities and duties and make personnel recommendations to ensure proper and optimum use of personnel. Develop and maintain employee personnel information/administrative records including performance and salary reviews, attendance control registers and daily production figures within the unit.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, environmental, health and safety standards, including emergency/disaster response programs. Prepare accident estimates promptly, ensure repairs are done timely and liaise with other departments.
  • Develop and maintain all appropriate records related to the engineering operations (various facility systems) and internal or external projects affecting these systems. Review and approve related invoices in advance of Managers approval. Develop and maintain records and procedure manuals related to vendors, and standard operating procedures (SOP). 
  • Ensure electrical distribution centers, generators, boilers, chillers, wastewater treatment plant and related equipment are maintained and in proper working order. 
  • Ensure the unit has proper and correct amounts of tools and equipment to perform job effectively and is accountable for their proper use and safe-keeping. Maintain inventory of fixed assets to include parts, tools, and related equipment.
  • Ensure National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations are properly adhered to and enforced by internal engineers and outside contractors. 
  • Report status of various systems to the appropriate parties based on the agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA). 
  • Assist with budget preparation and cost controls associated with operating the facility.
  • Available on an on-call basis. 
  • Other duties as required by Manager or Company.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Must have state issued drivers license in good standing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred with 7 years experience in the technical fields of engineering or electrical or plumbing, or HVAC.

Or

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering with 5 years experience in the technical fields of electrical work or plumbing or HVAC.

Preferred:

  • 5 or more years experience in managing a staff of 2 or more engineers.
  • 3 or more years experience in managing the engineering operation in a professional environment.
