  • Overview

    Learn to evaluate and adjudicate property claims, with focus and emphasis being on catastrophe related claims, by the successful completion of our training course (will include on-the-job, self-study, classroom and fieldwork).  Learn claim investigation, policy coverage, damage assessment, estimating, legal applications and claim resolution. Responsibilities include effective communication with insureds, agents and management, detail oriented investigation and analysis of coverage and property damage, obtaining supporting documentation and achieving positive claim outcomes for homeowners and commercial property claims primarily within catastrophe claim events and environments. All job duties and responsibilities will be carried out in compliance with applicable legal/statutory requirements.


    **This position will require extensive travel.  When you are not traveling, you will work out of our Richmond, VA office**


    • Participate in training program, meet all requirements associated with completion of hosted coursework, and demonstrate the ability to apply learning in the day-to-day job functions. The trainee will be exposed to field inspections and training with experienced Property Field Supervisors, Property Claim Specialists, Associate General Adjusters, General Adjusters, as well as Executive General Adjusters. 
    • Provide voice-to-voice contact within the same day of first report and obtain the necessary facts pertaining to the claim. 
    • Obtain facts from insureds, responsible parties, authorities, witnesses, agents and underwriters.
    • Maintain contact with all parties throughout the life of the file and timely document the status as needed.
    • Conduct thorough investigations in order to determine coverage, facts of loss, degree of damages/exposure, and establishing of reserves accordingly.
    • Complete field inspections in locations of extensive damage from catastrophic events and maintain a proper file which includes a thorough description of damages, proper scope of work to be completed, and photographs. A proper file also includes properly developing and writing their own estimate of damages for the work to be completed.
    • Work closely with Property Field Supervisor to promptly resolve any claim issue, including the timely referral or escalation of claims as appropriate, based on exposure and established guidelines.
    • Maintain quality claim files in accordance with appropriate property Q/A guidelines.
    • Provide excellent customer service throughout the claim process through continued contact and communication of claim disposition to all parties, including the insured and agency partners. 
    • Must be able to travel extensively, including using an automobile / airplane to travel within territories and possess a valid driver’s license. Travel represents approximately 70% + of employee’s time.



    • High School diploma or equivalent and College degree.
    • Following computer application knowledge and experience required:
    • Proficient in most standard business software applications, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook), as well as internet research. 
    • 1 year of experience in Property or knowledge of construction preferred.
    • Business and/or accounting knowledge a plus.
    • Energetic team player with excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills 
    • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize daily assignments.
    • Must be highly organized with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines. 
    • Must possess excellent written and oral skills.
    • Must be willing to travel extensively in response in support of catastrophe related events, as well as supporting local office needs as warranted. This travel will require extended stays away from home possibly in excess of 70% of the time. 
    • Must have valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile extensively. 
    • Must be able to obtain all required state licensures in order to carry out the outlined job requirements, as required.
