  • Overview

    Supervise underwriters and coordinate their activities with internal and outside personnel. Operates within letter of authority for referral underwriting.  All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.



    • Supervises, coordinates, and monitors activities of an underwriting unit to obtain and ensure accurate, quality work while at the same time maintaining high production standards.


    • Schedules, priorities and distributes workflow of unit to ensure work is done in a timely fashion and all deadlines are met.


    • Provides guidance to agents and policyholders and provides technical guidance and expertise to underwriters. Acts as a liaison with other supervisors or branches with whom their unit interacts.


    • Recommends procedural changes and plans, organizes and implements these changes. Keeps current on all changes effecting unit's work production and on changes within the insurance industry.


    • Responsible for the profitability and production of the team per budget.


    • Arbitrate problems between agents, insured’s, or other departments.


    • Develops and monitors management reports.


    • Testifies in court and/or participates in the taking of depositions as needed on claims or coverage issues.



    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • 5+ years Underwriting Experience.
    • VA P&C License to be obtained within 60 days to 90 days.  




    • College degree
    • Personal Lines and Commercial Lines Underwriting Experience
    • 2+ Years Supervisory
